Constipation due to pain killers.?

I've been taking Tramadol and am now really constipated. It hurts very very bad. I don't have money to buy laxatives or metamucal or anything and don't have insurance to go to the doctor. I've been getting a little out but not much. I tried prune juice and it is very disgusting. Please tell me some natural ways to get it flowing as fast as possible. O can't go to work like this it hurts! I'm going o the grocery store soon. Wtill spicy v8 help? Tell me what to eat/drink!

Better Answer

Stop taking the pain killers. Simple as that. Also drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fiber. That will help the constipation. Orange juice also works.

If you can afford V8 juice, you can afford a package of glycerin suppositories.

Lots and lots of water. Try Apple juice and some cereal with a lot of fiber in it. If you can, get some Senecot C.... it is what my pharmacist has me take when I am having issues. I have been taking Tramasol for about 4 years now and I am pretty used to it by now. I just drink a lot of water and am fine but when I wasn't the senecot helped a lot. You can get the store brand so it will cost a lot less and works just as effectively.

You need to get yourself "going" or you are going to have some real problems. Store (generic) brands of stool softeners or laxatives are not that much money. Go talk with the pharmacist and explain to them the meds you are on and the problem you are having and they will point you in the right direction. As far as foods that will help, dried fruits are good sources of fiber and fiber is what makes you go. Berries, apples, oranges, etc. are also good things to eat. Drink plenty of water, 6 to 8 - 8 ounce glasses a day at minimum.

Orange juice! Excessive orange juice / vitamin c, usually can cause you to let go. Then stop drinking it and just drink water. Coffee helps some people, too. If you have vitamin c, you can take that; 1000 mgs. every two hrs. till you let go. Again, then drink water.

call your closest independent pharmacy and ask them if they can sell you #100 generic Colace (docusate sodium 100mg shouldn't be more than $3) or peri_colace. Tramadol is the least constipating of Rx pain killers so it may be something else. If you have had it more than a week or 2 stop the Tramadol and take Ibuprofen 400-600mg three times a day (if no allergies or ulcers) with food or acetominophen 1000mg (If you are not an alcohol drinker), probably will work just as well and cost less
